Haf Power Solutions supplies the battery pack for the Oslofjord's first zero-emission tourist boat.

Brim Explorer's third boat was ready for its official maiden voyage on Saturday 11.02.23. The boat was christened MS Brisen. Haf Power Solutions has delivered an in-house developed battery and power management system.

All-electric experience on the Oslofjord

Brim Explorer has long been at the forefront of creating a greener tourism and adventure industry at sea. Now they are launching the Oslofjord's first tourist boat with zero emissions. Haf Power Solutions has developed a separate battery and power management system and helped develop a new all-electric driveline with direct drive without gears. This gives Brisen's passengers a silent and vibration-free experience at sea. In addition, it provides the shipping company with significant savings in emissions and operating costs.

The delivery from Haf Power Solutions increases operational reliability, optimizes the power system, helps to reduce greenhouse gases and provides significant weight savings for further energy efficiency. The system has been developed in-house and is controlled from the control chair in the wheelhouse.

"With "MS Brisen" we are taking the next step. We use automotive technology in marine applications to increase operational reliability and the area of use for electric vessels, while at the same time making the overall solution more cost-effective", says Bengt Olav Berntsen, CEO of Haf Power Solutions.

MS Brisen will be equipped with a battery capacity of 800 kWh, which corresponds to the battery size of around 10 Tesla cars. This means that Brisen can operate all day without sound or emissions before there is a need to charge the batteries.

"We chose Haf Power Solutions precisely because they wanted to be part of a development race to push the boundaries of electric propulsion at sea. With Brisen, we have together turned over every stone to find lighter and better components and solutions. In cooperation between the suppliers and the shipyard, we achieve the goal of sailing without gears, and introduce a completely new driveline with direct electric drive on the shaft and smarter control of the power electronics on board. This would not have been possible without the expertise Haf Power Solutions has", says Espen Larsen-Hakkebo, Technical Manager at Brim Explorer.

MS Brisen can sail with up to 146 passengers and will offer Silent Oslo Fjord Cruises, fjord yoga, dinner trips and charters in the Oslo Fjord all year round.
